South East Construction successfully completed the K1 replacement and refurbishment of the Fluid Bed and Rotary Dryers.

7707 Fluid Bed Dryer: The project included removal and replacement of the structural and EPDM roofing over the FBD to gain access to the upper section of the dryer and hoist with the crane. Removal and replacement of the mill wall to set up the jack and slide system to remove the existing bottom section as well as bring the new bottom section of the dryer into place. High-risk asbestos abatement of the existing refractory. Demolition and replacement of the concrete base.

7701 Rotary Dryer: Refurbishment of the concrete base for the rotary dryer and replacement of 2 dryer sections, as well as repairing the burner can and replacing the refractory. Replacement of the drive and trunnion base, and final alignment and grinding of the trunnions and tires.

Work was performed over Mosaic’s annual shutdown, and with pre-planning and coordination efforts, both dryers were successfully and safely completed and turned over to Mosaic on schedule.
